Supporting the Texas Panhandle

TGCRVOAD, Houston, March 26, 2024 – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is operating four Animal Supply Points (ASP) where items can be received and then distributed to affected agricultural producers.  For those wishing to donate, the community has priority needs of 1) fencing supplies, 2) salt blocks, and 3) protein tubs. Additionally, there continues to be a need for hay and livestock/wildlife feed. Before arranging a donation, it’s recommended to call the hotline to discuss which ASP the donation should go to (806-354-5800 from 8 AM-5 PM, M-F).

  • Title 42 expired May 11th at midnight.
  • The expiration is expected to result in an increase of migrants crossing the border seeking asylum in the US under Title 8.
  • The surge is likely to overwhelm existing processing and detention capacity on the border, and we expect busloads of new migrants to arrive in Houston as early as this weekend or early next week. (5/12-5/17)
  • We expect that the surge in Houston will challenge existing programs and that there will be unmet needs.
  • We do not know what this will mean for the TGCRVOAD region, but local resources could be impacted, and unmet needs may arise.

Sunday, December 25. 2022- Texas Gulf Coast Regional VOAD is lowering its Alert Status to 0- Normal Operations.

The hard freeze warnings for many in our area will expire today, and we are in a warming trend. The electricity generation and distribution grid held up well at record levels of demand, and we have received no reports of significant arctic blast-related damage.

18 December 2022 – TGCRVOAD is Raising its Activation Level to Level 1 – Situational Awareness for All Counties in our Service Area.

A blast of arctic air is headed our way. Strong winds will drive the “feels like” temperature into single digits. The frigid air will arrive sometime on Thursday, 22 DEC 2022, and temperatures will drop dramatically below freezing across the entire TGCRVOAD service area.

While Texas ERCOT expects sufficient generation to meet forecasted demand, memories from Valentine’s Day 2021 drive us to prepare for the worst.

TGCRVOAD Activities

  • The TGCRVOAD Chair and Vice-Chair will monitor the situation and provide updates as required.
  • There are no conference calls scheduled at this time.

TGCRVOAD Members and Partner

  • The Members and Partners of the TGCRVOAD should monitor the weather situation at (https://www.weather.gov/hgx/) and Space City Weather (spacecityweather.com), and the electricity demand and supply situation at (https://www.ercot.com/gridmktinfo/dashboards).
  • Determine if there are unmet needs related to the cold temperatures in your area.
  • Members and Partners serving the homeless and other constituencies directly exposed to the weather should pay particular attention to the weather and the state of the electric grid.
  • If unmet needs or coordination opportunities are identified, please get in touch with the TGCRVOAD Chair or Vice Chair as soon as practical.

Each registered TGCRVOAD Member and Partner Organization can sign up for two AlertMedia accounts.
AlertMedia is one of the foundations of the TGCRVOAD disaster response communication plan for sharing information and situational awareness and driving collaboration during a disaster response.

Alert =Media-driven messages include emails, voice mails, text messages, polls, and application alerts. Our messages will inform you to build awareness of what potential threats we are tracking, our response plans, our response coordination plans, and our conference call schedule as we move through the TGCRVOAD Activation Levels.

How to Apply for an Alert Media Account.

  • Complete the AlertMedia application.
  • Download the AlertMedia App (IOS or Android).
  • Receive an invitation (within a few business days) to set your password and register your account.
  • Register your account. (Follow the instructions in the email.)
  • Receive an invitation to an online training session.
  • Attend an AlertMedia training event. (Schedules are shared with AlertMedia license holders.

Every TGCRVOAD organization should have at least one (preferably two) representatives with AmertMedia accounts to allow for efficient communication and collaboration.
