SUMMARY:General Membership Meeting (ZOOM)
DESCRIPTION:After every disaster\, housing is always an issue. As many of you may have heard\, in October 2022\, HUD deployed its first round of funding through the new rapid response program\, Rapid Unsheltered Survivor Housing (RUSH) program to help the lowest-income and most marginalized disaster survivors regain or maintain stable\, affordable housing.  An initial $6.8 million was allocated to Florida and seven of the state’s localities. The funds are intended to address homelessness in areas hit by disasters. RUSH goes beyond temporary\, short-term assistance to ensure that impacted individuals and families are still being served down the line. Previously\, through funds from United Way\, Harris County implemented a rapid housing program that was intended to catch individuals and families before they became homeless. More recently\, organizations partnered with the City of Houston and Harris County to do much of the same. \nAs we want to stay in a state of readiness\, it’s important for us to continue to explore best practices\, lessons learned\, as well as other areas that may impact our work in this region. At the January 11\, 2023\, TGCRVOAD meeting\, representatives from HUD’s Office of Outreach and Capacity Building will give a presentation on the role of housing counselors in a disaster situation and to the RUSH Program.  Strategically\, what can we take from these types of programs?  How do we build upon those best practices?  How do we collaborate and coordinate our services so that the most vulnerable and marginalized communities have access to – and receive benefits?  I will continue to ask these questions until answered. \nPlease join us on Wednesday\, January 11\, 2023\, from 9:30 – 11:00 am\, virtually. \nDRAFT AGENDA:\n\nWelcome and Introductions\nHUD Presentation\nNew Member Vote\nUpdates/Announcements\nClosing\n\nCredentials to log into this Zoom Meeting are supplied on request. \n If attending as a guest\, please contact Sonya.myers@hopedrtx.org for login information. \nPlease contact Tgcrvoad.membership@gmail.com if you would like to attend as a prospective member.
